Personal data or personally identifiable information is information that can be traced back to an individual. Examples of personal data or personally identifiable information include your name, home address, telephone number, email address, date of birth and any other information that is linked to this identifying information.

“REFER A FRIEND” FUNCTIONALITY
This STARS Study website uses a WordPress plugin called “Gravity forms” that allows you to share this STARS Study website with a friend. This form temporarily collects your contact details and the contact details of the friend for the purpose of sharing the STARS Study website with the friend. The STARS Study website is designed to delete this information once the information about this STARS Study website has been sent to the recipient by clicking the Submit button.

COOKIES
We collect basic data about your use of our website through the use of cookies. A cookie is a small piece of information that our server sends to your web browser when you access the STARS Study website. Every computer that accesses the STARS Study website is assigned a different cookie. Cookies are capable of storing many types of data. Cookies may be used to help us analyse usage of the STARS Study website. We do not link basic data from cookies to personally identifiable information. Most browser software can be set to reject all cookies.  Note, however, that some portions of the STARS Study website may not work properly if you reject cookies. For further information, visit allaboutcookies.org

IP ADDRESSES
An IP address is a number assigned to your computer/mobile by your Internet service provider so your computer/mobile can access the internet. Parexel only collects or stores full IP addresses in web logs (please see WEB LOGS and GOOGLE ANALYTICS below).

WEB LOGS
Web logs record basic data about your visit to the STARS Study website, such as the date and time of the visit, the pages of the STARS Study website viewed during the visit and IP addresses. Web logs are not directly collected by or stored by Parexel. Web logs for the STARS Study website are processed by a third-party company called Names.co.uk, which hosts this website. Web logs are necessary for the purposes of assisting with troubleshooting user issues within the website by parsing the web server logs and displaying relevant warnings and error messages in the interface. We do not normally seek to identify individuals from web logs. However, web logs may be shared with law enforcement agencies if we believe there has been a violation of computer security or related laws.

GOOGLE ANALYTICS
This website uses Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google, Inc. (“Google”), which uses cookies to help the web team analyse how users use the site. The information generated by the cookies about your use of the website will be transmitted to and stored by Google under its privacy policies:

Google: https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/6004245?hl

Parexel utilises IP address anonymisation within Google Analytics. The IP anonymisation feature in Analytics sets the last four digits of your IP address to zeros in memory shortly after being sent to the Analytics Collection Network. The full IP address is never saved to the hard drive in this case.

AGGREGATE DATA
We will combine the Google Analytics and cookie information your visit provides with information from other visitors to the STARS Study website to create aggregate data that contains no uniquely identifying information. We will share this aggregate data with the sponsor of the STARS Study, and/or its consultants. We will periodically analyse this aggregate data and use what we learn to make improvements to the STARS Study website. We may also share this aggregate data with our partners to assist them in better designing their websites for clinical research studies.

USE AND DISCLOSURE
We will not collect, use or disclose information of users of the STARS Study website for any purpose other than those described in this Privacy Policy. If these uses change at any time, we will update the privacy policy on the STARS Study website. We only use and disclose such information in the following ways:

  • SHARING INFORMATION WITH STUDY SITES
We may forward aggregate data (as defined above) and/or Google Analytics information to the STARS Study site.  This is to show how the site is discovered and navigated, and is completely anonymised. For more information on how this is done, please see the Google Analytics section above.
  • AGENTS AND SERVICE PROVIDERS
We may contract other companies and individuals to perform maintenance on the STARS Study website on our behalf. They may need access to information collected via this STARS Study website to perform their functions.

Third parties that access IP address information may be required to disclose it to comply with a law or regulation, or in response to a search warrant, subpoena or court order. Disclosures may also be appropriate to protect our legal rights, to protect the security or integrity of the STARS Study website, to take precautions against liability or during emergencies if physical safety is believed to be at risk. These types of disclosures are unlikely to occur but we want you to be aware that they are possible.

LINKS TO OTHER WEBSITES
The STARS Study website may contain links to other websites. We will inform you about this via a pop-up window containing website forwarding language. Please keep in mind when you access websites operated by other parties, whether through links on our website or otherwise, that we do not control what happens on those websites. You should always check the privacy policy of the website you are visiting in order to be sure you know how the operator of that website will collect information from you and what the operator of that website will do with the information.

DATA SECURITY and INTERNET TRANSMISSION RISKS
We acknowledge that no Internet transmission is ever 100% secure or error-free. We maintain appropriate technical, physical and organisational procedures to safeguard information collected via this STARS Study website against unauthorised or unlawful processing and/or against accidental loss, alternation, disclosure or access. It is your responsibility to ensure that the computer/mobile you use is adequately secured and protected against malicious software, Trojan horses, computer viruses and worm programs. Without adequate security measures on a computer/mobile, there is a risk that the information you provide could be disclosed to unauthorised third parties. Similarly, despite Parexel’s efforts to protect your information, there is always some risk that an unauthorised third party may find a way around our security systems or that transmissions of your information over the Internet may be intercepted.

Please print, save and retain a copy of the Privacy Policy (and of any revised version) for your records.

To the extent that collected information would allow Parexel to identify you from the collected information, Parexel will provide you with reasonable access to such information on request. Subject to any legal requirements, you are given a reasonable opportunity to correct, amend or delete information that is inaccurate. You may do so by contacting the Privacy Contact as set forth below.
